I met Adam in Loas in early 2014. We were both on long trips in South East Asia, exploring new cultures, ways of life, and landscapes. We also had just set out on freelance careers (something I subsequently realized) and see the chaos and uncertainty of our travels as driving forces behind the courage it takes to dive into the unknown. Careers driven by passion and ideas, not consistency of a salary, health insurance and roots and friendships that extend beyond the mountains we respectively live in.
While I was carrying cameras, developing my craft of cinematography and photography, Adam was reuniting with his affinity for travel inspired fine art and typography design work.
I chilled with Adam and some mutual friends for a week of my several month backpacking stint through Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, and Thailand.
When he shared his sketch book with me at a hut on the banks of the Mekong River in Don Det, I instantly was drawn to the rustic elegance of his pieces. Months later, Adam has moved from Cleveland to Denver and his artwork spans every medium…. wood, metal, clothing, hats, maps, sculpture, and digital…. you name it. I am sure Adam and I will collaborate in the future, in the mean time, I made the trip to Denver to catch up with friends from all over the world and to support Vicarel’s work with an Artist Profile film.
